Students learn the following behavior: receiving line, hand shakes, pinning and reading name tags, eye contact, giving and receiving compliments, walking slowly, sitting gracefully, posture while standing and sitting, small talk skills, serving and receiving refreshments, asking young adults to dancing, escorting and being escorted by a member of the opposite gender, responding to negative comments in a positive fashion, smiling with confidence at other students.

Dance
Students learn the following : Formal dance position, swing dance position, foxtrot, swing, cha-cha-cha, tango, rumba, waltz, western two-step, line-dances.

Music
Students at Rebecca's Cotillion are accompanied by piano. As their dancing skills increase, CDs are used. Piano music greets the students as they enter the ballroom, during dancing and refreshments, and as the students exit the ballroom when class is over.

Location
All classes are held at the beautiful Ritz Charles on North Meridian Street in Carmel. Parents are encouraged to let their children out at the front door of the Ritz Charles between 7:45-7:50 pm. The receiving line begins at 7:45 pm. The class begins promptly at 8:00 pm. When the class is concluded at 9:00 pm, parents are encouraged to park their cars and enter the Ritz Charles to gather their children. The parking lot is large and dark at the Ritz Charles, and Rebecca would prefer that parents lead their children to their parked cars rather than release the students into the dark alone.

Dress Code
Dress Code for Young Men: All gentlemen enrolled in Cotillion are required to wear sport coat and tie, dress pants or a suit, dress shoes (no tennis shoes, please- shoes without a rubber sole are better because the students dance on carpet, and rubber soles stick).

Dress Code for Young Ladies: All ladies enrolled in Cotillion are required to wear skirt and blouse, jumper, party or church dress, dress pants or pants suit. Girls will want to feel "dressed up." Gloves are required. These can be purchased at most department stores in the spring, Von Maur or bridal salons all year round. (We wear gloves because it makes dancing with many students more comfortable for all the students- perspiring palms). Please select a shoe with a closed toe and a low heel. Platforms, slings, wedges, toeless are dangerous when the girls dance. Again, no rubber soles because they stick to carpet and make dancing difficult. Please select dresses that are "covered up." Also, please no slip dress, backless, strapless numbers. If it is impossible to find a "covered" dress, please purchase a dressy sweater or jacket to wear with the dress. One conservative black dress is appropriate as are all conservative dresses. The girls are not expected to have a new dress for each class because social grace is not dependent on what one wears.

Dress Code for Parents attending Cotillion as Host and Hostess: Fathers- Coat and tie please. Mothers- Professional wear, church, or party wear. Moms do not need gloves.

Class size
The classes can be as large as 120 students; however, classes usually have 80-100 students enrolled. Please think of this in terms of couples. Forty to fifty couples in a large ballroom is a nice size for a formal party.

Cost
Sixth Grade: $$210.00 for ten one hour classes.
Seventh Grade: $$210.00 for ten one hour classes.
Eighth Grade: $$210.00 for five two hour sessions with four dinner parties.

Assistants at Rebecca's Cotillion
Rebecca employs three other women- all classroom educators- for each class of Cotillion. While Rebecca stands behind the microphone and gives instruction, the other three ladies circulate the room, correct the students, demonstrate, or dance with the students if necessary. Between six and eight parents are always in attendance as host and hostess. Parents form the receiving line and greet the students as they enter the ballroom, serve punch and cookies to the students, and shake hands with the students as they leave the ballroom. Parents are always welcome, and all parents are invited to the last Cotillion class in the spring to observe the progress of their young adults.

Refund Policy
All fees will be returned minus a twenty dollar bookkeeping fee until one month prior to the start of Cotillion classes. During the month prior to Cotillion, if there is a cancellation, the vacated position in the class must be filled with another student. Once the vacated position is filled with another student, fees will be returned minus a twenty dollar bookkeeping fee. After Cotillion classes begin, fees are not refundable.
